Dr Rajendra Prasad is the #firstPresident of Independent India. He served as president from 1950 to 1962. Prasad was born on 3rd December 1884 in the district of Zeradai, Siwan Bihar. Mahadev Sahai was the father of #DrRanjendraPrasad. He was a scholar of Sanskrit and Persian languages. His early schooling was from the district of Siwan in the Chapra district school. At the age of 12 he was married to Rajvanshi Devi.
After completing his elementary studies Prasad was sent to Patna for higher studies. He went to T.K. Ghosh academy for two years. After this, Dr Rajendra Prasad appeared in the Calcutta university examination for further studies. As he was a hard working and meritorious student, Prasad secured the First position at the entrance examination here. He also received a scholarship of Rs 30 per month for the rest of curriculum.
In the year 1902 Prasad joined the presidency College in Calcutta. He started his studies as a science student. He continued to perform well for the rest of three years till his graduation. In the year 1905 Dr Rajendra Prasad graduated with first division. It was a remarkable incident in the history that an examiner wrote on his answer sheet that “examine is better than examiner”.
Dr Rajendra Prasad joined the congress party during the freedom struggle. Soon he was popular and became a major leader from Bihar. Prasad was a follower of Gandhi. He was also imprisoned during Salt movement of 1931 and Quit India movement of 1942. He serced as the president of indian National Congress for a period of 1934 to 1935. After the elections of of 1946 he served as the minister of food and agriculture. After a very short period he was elected as the President of India.
