Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX & the Quest for a Fantastic Future by Ashlee Vance is absolutely inspiring! Elon Musk is nothing less than amazing. He is a business owner, entrepreneur, engineer, visionary, father, and billionaire who was born in South Africa. He is now the owner and operator of both SpaceX and Tesla motors. Elon’s will, vision, intellect, and work ethic are huge contributors to his overall success. What Elon is doing is something to take notice of, and something to admire. He truly is building a better future for the greater good of humanity.
When Elon was just a 12-year-old kid, he developed his own video game and sold it for $500. In his early 20s, he developed a company website service that was an early concept similar to Yelp and Google maps. That company was called Zip2. Compaq bought out Zip2 for about 300 million dollars, Elon earned 22 million out of that deal and became a millionaire at 28 years old. With most of his earnings he went on to his next project/business venture. Elon then started his company called x.com. Today x.com is the world famous online banking service known as PayPal. Elon sold PayPal to eBay for 1.5 billion dollars. He made over 150 million dollars from that deal. Elon could have retired and disappeared from the tech world, but his mission to create a better world is far too important to even consider retiring. Elon took his earning and started his space venture company known as SpaceX. Elon invested around 100 million dollars of his earning to fund SpaceX; this was by far his riskiest business decision yet. What I admire about Musk is that it did not matter how much risk was involved, he was going to do it anyway. Elon has an inner inclination to make the world a better place, and part of that idea of a better place is to colonize space. Because of his vision, determination, will, intellect, and insane work ethic, Elon Musk continues to prove haters wrong and beat the odds.
After the sale of PayPal, Elon also invested in the startup of an electric car company that he now runs, known as Tesla motors. Elon is the operator, leader, and driving force behind these two great companies.
I want to make it clear that this was NOT easy. Tesla and SpaceX have both been in crucial situations where they came very close to failure. The process was an extreme roller coaster ride, with unforeseen events, circumstances, and challenges. Elon seems to have a tendency of staying focused, blocking out negativity towards his businesses, and completing his tasks at hand. In the biography, you’ll come to realize that Elon had to face an extreme amount of adversity, risk, and negative criticism towards what he was doing. The opinion of haters, doubters, and negative Nancy’s do NOT matter at all to Musk. For Elon, what he is doing is so important that it’s worth taking the risk regardless of the odds. Elon Musk is definitely someone to admire and someone we should look up to and strive to be like. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is in pursuit of his or her very own personal legend. This book helps people believe that, whatever dream they want to pursue, it is not only possible, but also accomplishable. Whatever you want to do, do. Go after your dream like Elon. Pursue your passion with determination, intellect, a strong will, great work ethic, and a desire to make your life and the lives of others better than they were before
Who is Matlas/TridentLion?
Fresh out of college after completing a B.A. online I was already a father of 2 kids. The greatest thing I learned from online college was discipline, having a goal and working your ass of until its achieved. I’ve worked various jobs since I was 13 years old, having had a strong value for hard work instilled in me while growing up. I worked jobs from landscaping, to restaurants, to even plays. After college I got into real estate sales to support my family and became successful doing so. However none of those jobs were igniting the fire of passion inside me; I didn’t enjoy doing those things. So I’ve been on a journey to become a better version of me, doing work I actually love. I became obsessed with learning and growth, reading hundreds of books, learning what other successful people do. I started to see problems as opportunities to be solved.
So I set out to solve the problems:
What do I want out of life? What do I want to do? What are my passions?
